Years later, after growing into a three-hospital health system, Beaumont – Royal Oak is a 1,070-bed tertiary care, teaching, research and referral hospital. The medical staff includes more than 3,100 physicians representing more than 91 medical and surgical specialties.
Beaumont is named after William Beaumont, MD, a medical pioneer of discoveries about human digestion. Dr. Beaumont’s pioneering spirit has been carried on throughout Beaumont’s history as physicians at the hospital carried out other medical firsts. For instance, Beaumont physicians performed the nation’s first closed-chest heart valve replacement and pioneered surgery to treat urology disorders.
