19 hospitals honored for volunteer programs

The American Hospital Association recognized 19 hospitals for extraordinary volunteer programs Oct. 8.

The AHA’s Hospital Awards for Volunteer Excellence honor hospitals in four categories: community service, community outreach and/or collaboration, fundraising, and in-service hospital volunteer programs.

Here are the four hospital programs that won HAVE awards in 2018, and the 15 runners-up:

Winner of community service award:

1. Mercy Medical Center (Cedar Rapids, Iowa): Family Caregivers of Mercy

Finalists:

2. Integris Grove Hospital, Integris Health (Oklahoma City): Integris Grove Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary-Souper Bowl Saturday
3. FirstHealth of the Carolinas (Pinehurst, N.C.): Moore County: They Immunize Kids Early
4. Morris (Ill.) Hospital & Healthcare Centers: Morris Hospital Patient Transportation Program
5. Munroe Regional Medical Center (Ocala, Fla.): Munroe Auxiliary Healthy Home

Winner for community outreach/collaboration award:

6. HSHS St. Joseph Hospital (Chippewa, Wis.): HSHS St. Joseph Community Garden

Finalists:

7. Enloe Medical Center (Chico, Calif.): Flu Clinic Volunteer Program
8. Grand River Health (Rifle, Colo.): Grand River Meals on Wheels
9. Yale New Haven (Conn.) Hospital: The H.O.P.E Program/Having an Opportunity to Prepare for Employment
10. Winchester (Va.) Medical Center: Winchester Medical Center Hurst Hospitality House

Winner of fundraising award:

11. Hackensack (N.J.) Meridian Health: Tackle Kids Cancer

Finalists:

12. Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital (Barrington, Ill.): Art in the Barn
13. Hannibal (Mo.) Regional Healthcare System: Glitz Gala Jewelry Auction
14. UnityPoint Health Des Moines (Iowa): Iowa Lutheran Hospital Auxiliary Not New Shop
15. Peconic Bay Medical Center, Northwest Health (Riverhead, N.Y.): Volunteer Memorial Day Program

17. The Medical Center, Navicent Health (Macon, Ga.): Art Therapy Program
18. Mayo Clinic (Jacksonville, Fla.): OR Suite Volunteer
19. The Valley Hospital (Ridgewood, N.J.): Reiki for Staff Volunteer Program
