11 healthcare careers with the most job security

Eleven of the 20 most secure careers are in the healthcare sector, according to U.S. News and World Report's latest ranking

The publication uses data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics to determine which careers are most stable.

"Of our jobs with the best security, 70 percent of the top 10 jobs on that list are in the healthcare industry," Janica Ingram, U.S. News' careers editor, told Becker's. "So this is definitely an industry that is not only experiencing fast job growth —  nurse practitioners particularly are experiencing 46 percent job growth, which is faster than the average, over the next 10 years — but these jobs are definitely security-rich."

The following healthcare jobs were among the most stable careers for 2023:

  • Respiratory therapist

  • Cardiovascular technologist

  • Epidemiologist/medical scientist

  • Registered nurse

  • Medical and health services manager

  • Medical records technician

  • Physical therapist
