The Center for Radiology Education launched a nationwide initiative to award up to 5,000 scholarships for students enrolling in medical imaging programs at John Patrick University of Health and Applied Sciences in South Bend, Ind.

The program is designed to address an 18% national vacancy rate among radiologic technologists, nearly triple the rate three years ago, according to a March 17 news release. The shortage has strained imaging services across hospitals and clinics, delaying care and increasing costs.

The scholarships, valued at up to $10,000 per student, will support tuition for degree and certificate programs in radiologic technology, MRI, sonography, nuclear medicine, radiation therapy and other imaging specialties. Students can earn an associate degree in as little as 16 months.

Applications are open for the May 2026 cohort. The initiative is part of the Center for Radiology Education’s broader effort to strengthen the healthcare workforce by expanding access to clinical training and simulation-based education.

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
