Salt Lake City-based Intermountain Health plans to add approximately 20 radiologists as Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging works through a backlog of imaging results in Las Vegas, according to an Aug. 27 report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Patients told the publication that imaging delays had forced them to postpone appointments and wait longer for results. One cancer patient said their scan results took 23 days, despite an estimated turnaround time of seven to 10 days.
Intermountain told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Steinberg Diagnostic is experiencing delays in some imaging results because of a shortage of radiologists, with Southern Nevada affected “more severely than the rest of the country.” Intermountain is also working to expedite licensing, credentialing, privileging and onboarding processes.
Intermountain began a phased acquisition of Steinberg Diagnostic on Jan. 1; Steinberg has 12 locations across the Las Vegas Valley. Nevada has nine radiologists per 100,000 people, the lowest number per capita in the U.S., according to the Review-Journal, which cited a 2025 report from Medicus Healthcare Solutions.
