Radiology specialties neared a 100% fill rate for Match Day 2025, according to the National Resident Matching Program’s data.
Compared to 2024, the National Resident Matching Program saw a 5.3% increase in certified applicants and a 4.2% increase in positions.
Here is what to know about how radiology fared from the data:
Interventional radiology
- All 52 available first-year post-graduate interventional radiology positions were filled.
Between 2021 and 2025, the number of available first-year postgraduate interventional radiology positions rose from 41 to 52, though the specialty’s share of overall available positions remained the same at 0.1%. - Of the 150 available second-year postgraduate interventional radiology positions, 147 were filled.
Between 2021 and 2025, the number of available second-year postgraduate interventional radiology positions rose from 121 to 150, and the specialty’s share of overall available positions rose from 4.5% to 5.3%. - Eight of the 11 available interventional radiology physician positions were filled.
Between 2021 and 2025, the number of available interventional radiology physician positions rose from 21 to 11, and the specialty’s share of overall available positions rose from 0.9% to 2.9%.
Radiology-diagnostic
- Of the 150 available first-year post-graduate radiology-diagnostic positions, 147 were filled.
Between 2021 and 2025, the number of available first-year postgraduate radiology-diagnostic positions rose from 122 to 151, and the specialty’s share of overall available positions rose from 0.3% to 0.4%. - Of the 1,057 available second-year postgraduate radiology-diagnostic positions, 1,042 were filled.
Between 2021 and 2025, the number of available second-year postgraduate radiology-diagnostic positions rose from 986 to 1,057, and the specialty’s share of overall available positions rose from 36.5% to 37.6%. - Of the 28 available radiology-diagnostic physician positions, 27 were filled.
Between 2021 and 2025, the number of available radiology-diagnostic physician positions fell from 31 to 28, and the specialty’s share of overall available positions fell from 14.6% to 7.3%.
Radiology-nuclear medicine
- There were no first-year postgraduate radiology-nuclear medicine positions available.
- Both of the available second-year postgraduate radiology-nuclear medicine positions were filled.
Between 2021 and 2025, the number of available second-year postgraduate radiology-nuclear medicine positions and the specialty’s share of overall available positions stayed the same, at two and .01%, respectively. - There were no radiology-nuclear medicine physician positions available.
Between 2021 and 2025, the number of radiology-nuclear medicine physician positions fell from one to zero, and the specialty’s share of overall available positions fell from 0.5% to 0%.
