AHA Supports CMS' Proposed Rule on Electronic Fund Transfers

The American Hospital Association has submitted comments to CMS in support of the Committee on Operating Rules for Information Exchange's interim rule on electronic fund transfers and remittance advice, according to an AHA News Now report.

The AHA said in its comments that the rule is "an important step forward to advance administrative simplification and burden reduction," and urged CMS to propose adoption of an acknowledgement transaction standard to "clear the way for total adoption of CORE's operating rules."

The rule is intended to streamline administrative processes for healthcare providers, and CMS estimates EFT and ERA standards could save hospitals, physicians, the government and other healthcare stakeholders more than $9 billion over the next decade.
