The hospital is investigating the cause of the outbreak, which hit the unit in March and caused the burn unit to close, although the hospital continues to accept burn patients. While most people can resist the bacteria, immunocompromised people, such as burn patients, are particularly susceptible, according to the report.

UF Health Shands Hospital, which had planned to renovate the burn unit before the outbreak, is moving forward with renovations of the unit, which are expected to be completed in four to six months, according to the report. The hospital is also testing for the bacteria in other areas of the hospital and plans to test patients who may be carriers of the bacteria.

Many of the infected patients have been discharged, but one patient remains in an isolation unit, according to the report.
