At the time the report was published, 12 patients and 14 staff were hit with a bug that was causing diarrhea, vomiting and nausea. The hospital closed off the unit and will not be admitting any new patients to prevent the spread of infection. Meanwhile, staff members are disinfecting and taking extra precautions to make sure that section of the hospital is clean.
The state Department of Health and the Albuquerque Environmental Health Department will help the hospital determine what caused the outbreak.
