Study: Positive Deviance Increases Hand Hygiene Compliance 33%

A hand hygiene initiative that used positive deviance, a community-based social change strategy, led to a 33.3 percent increase in hand hygiene compliance and 43.2 percent decrease in the device-associated infection rate, according to a study in the American Journal of Infection Control.

A positive deviance intervention was implemented in six Brazilian hospitals and one Thai university hospital from November 2011 to July 2012.
