Researchers conducted a study of Chartered Value Exchanges and stakeholders in Massachusetts, Oregon, California, Washington, Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Indiana. The AHRQ’s Chartered Value Exchanges are multistakeholder initiatives with the goal of quality improvement and transparency.
The researchers found that the stakeholders in each exchange have built trust, cooperation and successful public reporting, which improved provider performance and enabled consumers to choose providers that best meet their needs. For instance, Minnesota developed a reporting program on appropriate use of asthma medications. Physicians’ compliance with guidelines rose from 74 percent to more than 90 percent.
Despite the collaboratives’ accomplishments, the researchers also determined several challenges, including funding and difficulty with expanding reporting activity.
