Oregon Patient Safety Commission Looks to Boost Voluntary Reporting

The Oregon Patient Safety Commission is hoping to boost voluntary reporting from state healthcare facilities by awarding those that have “taken the lead” in reporting internal data on patient harm, according to an Oregonian report.

The healthcare organizations that were recognized for meeting or exceeding the commission’s reporting standards include:

•    Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend and University District, Springfield and Eugene
•    Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford
•    Samaritan Albany General Hospital in Albany

•    Providence Newberg Medical Center in Newberg
•    Oregon SurgiCenter in Springfield
•    River Road Surgery Center in Salem

The commission hopes the recognition will encourage other facilities, especially surgery centers and nursing homes, to voluntarily report patient harm data in greater numbers, according to the report.
