“Harm reduction does not aim to make drug users quit immediately; it is a form of aid to make drug use less dangerous for people who are participating in it,” Victor King, a research assistant at the University of Washington’s Harm Reduction Research and Treatment Center located in Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, told The Daily.

HaRRT is actively seeking homeless individuals suffering from alcoholism to participate in research designed to develop harm reduction tactics to better assist said individuals. The Pioneer Square Clinic, which is managed by Harborview, provides primary healthcare and treatment for acute problems for vulnerable patients in downtown Seattle. Another downtown Seattle facility, the Dutch Shisler Sobering Support Center, provides a safe place for addicts to sleep off the effects of alcohol or other drugs.
According to The Daily, heroin overdoses killed 132 people in King County, which encompasses the Seattle metropolitan area.
