A Commonwealth Fund study found the number of uninsured children had risen rapidly in the 1990s, but Congress’ passage of the Children’s Health Insurance Program and state Medicaid expansions helped reverse that trend.
Children’s coverage expanded in 35 states through 2009, but coverage for parents deteriorated in 41 states.
