An independent physician with privileges to practice at Halifax Health Medical Center was hospitalized in April for C. diff. He told state inspectors he completed his antibiotics and had been symptom-free for four days when he scheduled an operation for May 13, according to the report. However, after the operation he began showing symptoms again and tested positive for C. diff.
Florida’s Agency for Healthcare Administration cited the hospital for failing to ensure infection control practices, according to the report.
Ann Martorano, a Halifax Health spokesperson, told Daytona Beach News-Journal the physician “immediately removed himself from the hospital,” and no patients were infected.
