The hospital patient’s husband was also found dead in the couple’s home early Friday morning. The man suspected of both killings was arrested, according to the report. The police stressed that the incidents were not random acts of violence.

Although the hospital was on a lockdown, staff and patients were safe and the hospital was operating “business as usual,” Wright Alcorn, the hospital’s vice president of operations, told NBC Chicago.

On a more general note, violence in hospitals has been a growing national concern, and a survey by the International Healthcare Security and Safety Foundation showed an increase in the rate of violent crime, assault and other crimes in U.S. hospitals from 2013 to 2014.
