Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital performed more than 15,000 organ transplantations, a milestone reached by only a handful of healthcare centers in the nation.
The hospital’s transplant program was launched in 1974 and has since grown to one of the highest-volume programs in the U.S. In 2025, the TGH Transplant Institute performed 895 transplants — 519 kidney, 284 liver, 42 heart, 42 lung and 8 kidney-pancreas transplants — and was ranked one of the top five centers for transplant by volume for the third consecutive year, according to a May 7 system news release.
“Reaching 15,000 transplants is an achievement shared by only a small number of institutions in the world, and it’s a testament to our team’s commitment to exceptionalism,” John Couris, president and CEO of Florida Health Sciences Center Tampa General, said in the release.
