Wilmington, Del.-based Nemours Children’s plans to open an institute for maternal fetal health to enhance care for mothers who receive a serious fetal diagnosis during their pregnancy.
The institute’s first location will open at Nemours Children’s Hospital in early 2026 and will provide advanced quaternary-level care services, including multimodal fetal imaging, prenatal diagnostics, fetal intervention, genetic evaluation and complex neonatal care, according to a Dec. 11 news release.
“The launch of the Institute for Maternal Fetal Health at Nemours Children’s will usher in a new era of cutting-edge care for mothers carrying fetuses with known congenital anomalies,” R. Lawrence Moss, MD, president and CEO of Nemours Children’s Health, said in the news release. “Our commitment to deliver state-of-the-art fetal interventions while surrounding the whole family with robust psychosocial support underscores our unwavering commitment to Whole Child Health.”
The institute is designed to promote a sense of calmness and support the well-being of babies and their families, leaders said. It will support families’ psychosocial needs and embrace shared decision-making. All advanced units for medically fragile infants will be adjacent to the advanced delivery unit.
Julie Moldenhauer, MD, will serve as the institute’s director. She is triple-board certified in OB-GYN, maternal-fetal medicine and clinical genetics.
