The Wilhelm Foundation, a Swedish-based non-profit research organization, pioneered the Undiagnosed Hackathon in 2023 to address the 350 million people worldwide who have an undiagnosed disease, according to the event’s website

This will be the first Undiagnosed Hackathon to take place in the U.S. The first iteration of this event occurred in Stockholm and the second was in the Netherlands.

Mayo Clinic has hosted similar hackathons in recent years, such as ones focused on healthcare innovation.
