Lucian Leape, MD. Physician and Adjunct Professor at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (Boston). Dr. Leape became an innovator in health policy after spending more than two decades working in pediatric surgery. Dr. Leape began working in healthcare policy in 1986. In 1994, his article “Error in Medicine” was published in JAMA, which called for the application of systems theory to prevent medical errors, which ultimately helped spur the formation of the National Patient Safety Foundation. Dr. Leape has been awarded the American Pediatric Surgical Association’s Distinguished Service Award and the John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award from The Joint Commission and National Quality Forum.
