HHS on Sept. 18 shared new commitments meant to improve the diagnosis and treatment of long COVID, including an online hub for health systems to share best practices in treating patients experiencing lingering issues after a bout with the virus.

Following a roundtable with patients and medical experts, HHS shared new actions related to advancing research on the condition and improving patient care.

These include creating a resource for physicians, researchers and health systems to share clinical insights on diagnosis and treatment, launching a national campaign to raise awareness about the condition and its symptoms, and the release of a new report from the Agency for Healthcare Research on health insurance utilization among adults with long COVID.

No standard definition for long COVID exists; experts say that has added barriers to advancing research and identifying effective treatments for patients.
