Cedars-Sinai has received a $13 million donation from Eric and Terri Holoman to establish the Cedars-Sinai Holoman Health Equity Center and endow the Holoman Chair in Health Equity at the Los Angeles-based academic medical center.
Christina Harris, MD, vice president and chief health equity officer at Cedars-Sinai, will hold the endowed chair. Dr. Harris said she will use the platform to drive research and programs targeting coverage gaps, affordability barriers and social determinants of health.
“This endowed chair is, in many ways, a commitment to the profound legacy of the late Linda Burnes Bolton, DrPH, RN,” Dr. Harris said in a June 5 news release. “She became Cedars-Sinai’s first chief health equity officer after launching the Office of Health Equity in 2019. I am honored to carry this mission forward, standing on the shoulders of her esteemed leadership.”
The center will function as a data and innovation engine, expanding Cedars-Sinai’s research equity infrastructure, deepening community nonprofit partnerships and upgrading disparity measurement analytics, among other efforts.
Mr. Holoman, an insurance and finance entrepreneur, serves on the Cedars-Sinai Board of Directors. He is also a minority owner of the Washington Commanders and managing partner of the Los Angeles Sparks. Ms. Holoman sits on the board of the California African American Museum. The Holoman family has supported Cedars-Sinai for more than a decade, previously funding the Neurosurgery Scholars Program and The Brain Trust, a volunteer-driven fundraising and advocacy group supporting brain disease research and treatment.
Peter Slavin, MD, president and CEO of Cedars-Sinai, said the gift will establish accountability mechanisms across the medical center’s clinical settings, research labs and community programs.
