A man was shot and killed Nov. 13 by a security guard at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, N.Y.
Police responded to the hospital’s emergency department lobby around 11 p.m. EST after receiving a report of a shot fired, according to a Nov. 13 news release from the City of Newburgh Police Department.
Authorities said a “disorderly individual” pulled a fire alarm in the ED, dispatching the City of Newburgh Fire Department to the scene. Hospital security confronted the individual, who then allegedly pulled out a knife and attacked a guard.
An armed security guard fired a single round at the individual, who was later pronounced dead.
One woman who was near the altercation also received a non-life-threatening injury, according to the report.
