NYC health department offers 1,000 vouchers for free flu shots

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is offering 1,000 vouchers for free flu shots to the city's uninsured or underinsured residents, according to amNewYork.

The effort is part of a larger partnership between the city and pharmacies like Duane Reade and Walgreens. The partnership aims to educate New Yorkers about the flu and encourage them to get vaccinated.

The free flu shot vouchers are available for uninsured or underinsured New Yorkers ages seven and older in neighborhoods with low vaccination rates, according to state officials. The vouchers are offered at 11 Walgreens and Duane Reade locations across the five boroughs.

"Our surveillance has shown that influenza activity remains elevated throughout the city, and expanding access to this potentially life-saving vaccine is one more step we can take to ensure New Yorkers remain healthy," said NYC Health Commissioner Mary Bassett, MD.
