Here are three things to know:
1. Pew launched the open-access Shared Platform for Antibiotic Research and Knowledge in September 2018. The free resource collects published and unpublished data on a cloud-based platform to help advance antibiotic development research.
2. Novartis will give Pew data from three antibacterial research programs the drugmaker discontinued in 2018.
3. Novartis is the second drug company to share data with SPARK. In October 2018, Achaogen also committed to provide its own data from halted antibiotic research programs.
“Our hope is that the data from these early research programs will reinvigorate the pipeline of antibiotics in development,” Allan Coukell, senior director of health programs at Pew, said in a press release.
