The National Black Nurses Association has named Lovoria Williams, PhD, MSN, an associate professor at the University of Kentucky College of Nursing in Lexington, as Nurse Researcher of the Year.
The NBNA made the announcement July 27 at its 47th Annual Institute and Conference in New Orleans. The award recognizes Dr. Williams' work in developing community-based interventions to reduce health disparities among minority and underserved populations. She particularly focuses on interventions to help people quit tobacco use, to increase cancer screenings and reduce obesity and diabetes.
Dr. Williams received her PhD in nursing from Georgia Regents University in Augusta (now Augusta University), where she wrote her dissertation on diabetes predictors among African-Americans in a faith-based setting. She currently works as a family nurse practitioner serving veteran, homeless and nicotine-dependent patients.
