Through programs such as the Reducing Avoidable Readmission Effectively campaign, the MHA-Hospital Engagement Network and the Adverse Drug Events Roadmap, Minnesota’s hospitals significantly reduced patient harm and readmissions, saving millions in excess cost. At least 97 percent of Minnesota’s hospital admissions statewide have been impacted by MHA projects.

“Providing quality care and keeping patients safe is paramount for all hospitals,” Rich Umbdenstock, AHA president and CEO, said in a statement. “The leadership shown by the Minnesota and Pennsylvania state hospital associations and their members should be emulated by all hospitals and health systems as they strive to provide quality care and improve patient safety.”

The award will be presented at the Health Forum-AHA Leadership Summit in San Francisco on July 23.
