The Leapfrog Group has created a learning collaborative program to provide resources and guidance to hospitals that serve a disproportionately high share of low-income and uninsured patients.

Four notes:

  1. The program is part of Leapfrog’s Judie Burrows Education Institute and is free to participating hospitals. It is supported by the AARP and other corporate contributions.

  2. The learning collaborative will provide hospitals data-driven insights, peer-to-peer learning opportunities and guidance to support advancements in patient safety. The program will initially focus on preventing pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis, which are heavily weighted measures in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.

  3. Ron Wyatt, MD, former chief quality officer at Cook County (Ill.) Health, will serve as the program’s curriculum director. He will lead a curriculum development advisory group, with leaders from several major health systems, including New York City-based New York Health + Hospitals and Brentwood, Tenn.-based Lifepoint Health.
  1. “The learning collaborative brings together the nation’s leading experts to provide essential resources and support to hospitals that play a vital role in caring for our most underserved populations,” Missy Danforth, senior vice president of healthcare ratings at The Leapfrog Group, said in a news release. “Hospitals serving a disproportionately high number of low-income and uninsured patients often lack access to educational opportunities like this.”
