KU Hospital issues measles exposure warning

Kansas City-based University of Kansas Hospital issued an exposure warning to employees and patients after a measles case was confirmed at the hospital, according to KCTV.

KU hospital officials are contacting employees and patients who worked or visited the hospital's emergency department and first-floor unit 15 between March 23 and March 26.

In particular, they are notifying people who were in the ED Friday March 23 between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.; those who were in the first floor unit 15 from 9 p.m. March 23 to 4 p.m. March 26; and those who were in the common areas of the main hospital, such as the cafeteria, main lobby or coffee shop, from Friday March 23 at 9 p.m. through 4 p.m. March 26.

"Our top priority is the safety, health and well-being of our patients, employees and visitors," said Timothy Williamson, MD, vice president for quality and safety for KU Health System. "We encourage anyone who has not previously been vaccinated for measles and may have visited these areas during this time to contact their primary care provider to determine the most appropriate next step for them."
