The first of several confirmed cases in the Sedgwick County, Kan., area was reported in the last few weeks, but there has not been a large increase in cases, said a spokesperson for Sedgwick County’s Division of Health.
During the 2017-18 flu season, Kansas health officials reported 193 deaths that were directly attributed to the flu. Influenza and pneumonia directly caused or contributed to about 1,700 deaths statewide — the most Kansas has seen in three years.
The CDC recommends all persons 6 months and older receive a seasonal flu vaccine by the end of October.
