The Joint Commission launched the Speak Up: Right ID, Right Care campaign Friday to educate patients on the importance of correct identification in healthcare environments.

Proper patient identification is an important safety step to avoid problems like wrong-patient surgery or taking improper medication, but patients may be confused as to why clinicians are asking for the same information again and again. This Speak Up campaign aims to educate patients as to why.
