Global insurance broker Willis now offers an ACO liability insurance policy.

The new policy comes at a time when the healthcare industry awaits the likely June decision of the Supreme Court on the constitutionality of the Patient Protected Affordable Care Act.

Willis’ policy, developed alongside a unit of the holding company Ironshore, will protect ACOs against antitrust and regulatory issues and offer a range of liability coverage.

“Some ACOs will not succeed, and their indemnification agreements may end up worthless,” writes Sandra Berkowitz, RN, JD, for Willis’ Healthcare publication. “Insurance, however, is an asset that can survive business failure and encourages informed risk-taking.”
