University of Kansas-Salina medical school to benefit from $2M grant

A $2 million grant from Logan, Kan.-based based Dane G. Hansen Foundation to the Salina Regional Health Foundation will help support the University of Kansas-Salina School of Medicine’s planned expansion, according to the Salina Journal.

The SalinaMedicalSchool needs a total of $7.6 million to remodel a former Bank of America Building in Salina purchased by the Salina Regional Health Foundation. The Hansen Foundation’s grant shaves $2 million off that price.

The Hansen Foundation has been supportive of the University of Kansas-Salina School of Medicine since the medical school opened in 2011. That year, it gave the medical school $100,000 for opening costs. It has since given other funds for capital needs and scholarship assistance.

“The Dane Hansen Foundation has been strongly committed to the creation, success and future of the medical school,” said Dean Bill Cathcart-Rake, MD, according to the report. “There’s no question they are committed to seeing us succeed.”

The medical school is slated to relocate to the new building in 2018.
