St. Louis University appoints new medical school dean

St. Louis University School of Medicine has named Kevin Behrns, MD, dean and vice president for medical affairs, according to the St. Louis Business Journal.

Dr. Behrns, a gastrointestinal surgeon, will officially take his position Jan. 1. He’ll replace Philip Alderson, MD.

Currently, Dr. Behrns serves as chair of the department of surgery at Gainesville-based University of Florida College of Medicine, a role he held on an interim basis in 2008 and permanently since 2009. He joined UF College of Medicine in 2005, and prior to that, he was an associate professor of surgery at Chapel Hill-based University of North Carolina School of Medicine.
