On Aug. 8, UIW officials cut a ribbon to the Kennedy Hill Roadway, which gives access to the 23-acre campus. Founding Dean Robyn Madson, DO, said the $50 million medical school is currently evaluating more than 1,000 student applications. Only 150 students will be accepted.
The forthcoming medical school will have two key focuses — improving access to residency slots in Texas and encouraging students to practice primary care.
“I don’t think the school is looking to create a bunch of brain surgeons [or] heart surgeons — not that we don’t need them, but we need primary care more than anything else,” said Texas Osteopathic Medical Association President-Elect David Garza, DO, according to the report.
