His retirement will be effective June 30, 2018.
In an op-ed for UCF Today, Dr. Hitt wrote it is the “right time” for him to step down because the decision provides “the best opportunity for [the university’s] momentum to continue” and that the “leadership team, including our trustees, vice presidents and deans, will continue turning big dreams into reality.”
Dr. Hitt also formally announced his decision during a speech at the UCF Fairwinds Alumni Center Tuesday, WMFE News reports.
In his speech, Dr. Hitt said his greatest achievement during his tenure as president was getting approval for, and opening, the UCF College of Medicine in 2006, according to WMFE News.
