Dean Health — a physician-owned system — and its subsidiaries will merge into SSM to create one of the largest integrated healthcare delivery networks in the country, according to a news release. The transaction will lead to more coordinated care and improve the patient experience, SSM Health Care President and CEO William P. Thompson said in the release. Financial details were not disclosed.
SSM and Dean Health signed a letter of intent in April to explore the transaction, in which Dean’s 500 physicians, more than 60 clinics and its subsidiaries — including a joint venture, 300,000-person health plan with SSM and a telemedicine firm — will become fully owned by SSM, which owns seven hospitals in central and southern Wisconsin and others across the Midwest.
In May, more than 97 percent of Dean Health shareholders voted in favor of merging with SSM.
