A hospital employee reported seeing a man with a gun on the second floor of the hospital around 9:20 a.m.Thursday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in news release. The employee who reported the suspicious individual described him as a Hispanic man in his 40s with medium-length hair and wearing a gray shirt. During a press conference just before noon Thursday, police further described him as 5 feet 5 inches tall and 140 pounds, according to KTLA-5 News. Police reiterated the description in the news release.
Officers locked down and searched the facility. Parts of the hospital were evacuated and patients were reportedly told to stay in their rooms, according to an Olive View-UCLA patient who spoke to the Los Angeles Times.
The lockdown lasted roughly three hours. The hospital resumed normal operations around 12:30 p.m. No gunshots or injuries were reported, according to CBS Los Angeles.
At least seven individuals were detained during the search. All seven individuals were later cleared and released. Police said there is no surveillance video of the alleged suspect “at this time.”
The alleged suspect had not been found as of Friday morning.
