Mount Pleasant-based Central Michigan University broke ground on its $180 million medical education building in Saginaw, WNEM reported Sept. 22.
The MyMichigan Health CMU Medical Education Building will be the new home of all medical students at the university. It will feature modern classrooms, advanced teaching spaces and clinical exam suites.
“The relocation of the College of Medicine to Saginaw will bring the students here together in one location for four years,” MyMichigan Health President and CEO Bryan Cross said at the groundbreaking ceremony, according to WNEM. “And having that built right here on the MyMichigan Saginaw campus makes that opportunity even more meaningful.”
The university partnered with Covenant HealthCare and MyMichigan Health to build the medical education building. In November, each system donated $40 million, and in June, the university’s Board of Trustees approved $100 million for the project.
The college of medicine was renamed the Covenant HealthCare College of Medicine at Central Michigan University and will be relocated to the new building on MyMichigan’s campus.
Construction is expected to be completed in summer 2028 with the first classes beginning in fall 2028.
