Joseph I. Shapiro, MD, dean of the medical school, announced the accreditation last week, the report states. The neurology program will welcome its first group of residents July 1, 2018.
A medical school executive told The Montgomery Herald the four-year program will train up to three residents per year, with a total capacity of 12 residents.
Individuals enrolled in the program will have the opportunity to treat patients at Marshall Health, Cabell Huntington Hospital, St. Mary’s Medical Center and the Huntington VA Medical Center, all in Huntington.
With the addition of the neurology residency, the medical school offers residency training programs in nine specialties and seven fellowships.
