Residency slots at Texas hospitals are in short supply, according to the report, which contributes to the physician shortage. According to the Star-Telegram, at least 100 of Texas’ 254 counties are designated as primary care provider shortage areas.
If the bill goes into law, it would create the following:
• A $10 million grant program for new residency slots
• A $1.5 million graduate medical education planning grant program
• A $33.8 million loan repayment program for medical school graduates
