Three things to know about the new campus, which is part of Worcester, Mass.-based UMass Chan Medical School, according to information shared with Becker’s:

  • The first class at UMass Chan-Lahey Regional Medical School Campus has 32 students. They will learn UMass Chan’s core curriculum and take part in a special track unique to the campus called LEAD@Lahey. The track focuses on leadership, health systems science and interprofessional education.
  • UMass Chan Medical School is Massachusetts’ only public medical school.
  • Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is part of Cambridge, Mass.-based Beth Israel Lahey Health.

Susan Moffatt-Bruce, MD, PhD, president of the century-old hospital and a cardiothoracic surgeon, said she is excited for the students to learn from Lahey’s clinicians.

“I think [the campus] is going to help address some of the inequities that exist relative to access and availability of services for patients, particularly in the primary care arena,” Dr. Moffatt-Bruce said in a Becker’s podcast. “I see this as really an opportunity to contribute and address some of the workforce issues and really be proactive around developing a sustainable workforce for the future.”

At the Becker's 11th Annual IT + Revenue Cycle Conference: The Future of AI & Digital Health, taking place September 14–17 in Chicago, healthcare executives and digital leaders from across the country will come together to explore how AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, and revenue cycle innovation are transforming care delivery, strengthening financial performance, and driving the next era of digital health.
