KeyBank’s EVP recognized for community impact

Margot James Copeland, chairwoman and executive vice president of the Cleveland-based KeyBank Foundation, is this year’s recipient of the Community Impact Award. The award, which honors women who have made a significant impact on others through their work, was presented Oct. 9 at the American Banker’s Most Powerful Women in Banking gala in New York.

Ms. Copeland is lauded for her mandate that all grants from the bank be “transformational.” For instance, under her direction, KeyBank Foundation funded grants to the Cleveland Clinic medical school to provide full-ride scholarships to students of color who plan to address health disparities in underserved communities.

“We have great emphasis and focus on education,” Ms. Copeland said. “‘Transformational’ means that [students] will have everything that they need to graduate.”

The KeyBank Foundation awarded $11 million in grants in 2013, primarily for education and workforce development.
