Florida hospitals prevent 5,283 patient harm events thanks to improvement efforts

A group of 77 Florida hospitals managed to prevent 5,283 instances of patient harm and save $28.7 million by working collaboratively to improve care, eliminate care disparities, create a culture of safety and promote appropriate antibiotic use.

The Florida Hospital Association’s Hospital Engagement Network led the improvement efforts between September 2015 and September 2016, which specifically focused on falls prevention, infection prevention, medication safety improvement, labor and delivery safety and readmission prevention.

“Florida hospitals are learning from one another and national experts to avoid complications, improve care and reduce costs through the FHA HEN,” said Bruce Ruben, president of the FHA.
