More than 10,000 doses of Merck’s experimental Ebola vaccine have been administered in the Congo, Dr. Peter Salama, medical epidemiologist at the World Health Organization, tweeted Sept. 18.
However, health officials still face major obstacles in containing the outbreak. Healthcare workers tasked with assessing the health of Ebola contacts reported losing track of some, according to STAT. A small portion of Ebola patients have also Ebola refused treatment or fled to highly populated areas.
So far, there have been 142 reported Ebola cases in the Congo, resulting in 97 deaths.
