During the 2010-2011 flu season, 63.5 percent of healthcare personnel reported receiving the vaccination.
Of the 2,348 personnel surveyed about the 2011-2012 season, vaccination coverage was 85.6 percent among physicians, 77.9 percent among nurses and 62.8 percent among all other healthcare personnel.
Roughly 33 percent of healthcare personnel reported not receiving a flu vaccination. The most common reasons for this were beliefs they did not need it, concerns about vaccination effectiveness and concerns about side effects.
Overall, 21 percent of participating personnel reported that a vaccination was required by their employers. Influenza vaccination was more common among those who reported that their employers promoted influenza vaccination (75.8 percent), compared with those whose employers did not promote influenza vaccination (55.8 percent).
