AllSpire Health Partners launches campaign for advance care planning

AllSpire Health Partners, an alliance of seven healthcare systems from the northeastern U.S., is creating a regional effort to inform patients in their communities about the importance of end-of-life care planning.

“AllSpire members are committed to providing excellent and affordable healthcare to the communities we serve. Part of that commitment is making sure our patients are informed about their healthcare planning options, and that is why our members are launching the Your Life, Your Wishes campaign,” said Gregory Sorensen, MD, senior vice president and CMO of Reading (Pa.) Health System.

Your Life, Your Wishes is meant to address some troubling numbers regarding end-of-life care. According to the campaign, 82 percent of Americans believe in the importance of putting their healthcare preferences in writing, but only 23 percent have. Similarly, more than 90 percent of Americans agree that having a conversation with their loved ones about their care preferences in the event of future illness, injury or end of life is important, yet only 30 percent actually make these thoughts or instructions known prior to such an occurrence.

“We realize that advance care planning is a sensitive subject matter and some individuals may be nervous or even afraid to talk with their family members about end-of-life care. We want to make sure that our patients have all of the tools they need to start the conversation,” added Dr. Sorensen.

The AllSpire campaign is being launched in recognition of National Healthcare Decisions Day on April 16.
