To investigate the culture and importance of nurse relationships to nurses, researchers surveyed 82 registered nurses about relationship dynamics with their colleagues.

More than 20 percent of nurses said they had considered leaving the nursing field because of poor relationships with nursing colleagues, and 55 percent said they had considered leaving or had actually left a specific nursing position for that same reason.

Surveyed nurses indicated that nurse managers have the ability to facilitate positive relationships among nurses, and negative relationships were often correlated with weak or un-invested nurse management, according to the study.
