Two people have died, one in Ohio and one in Texas, and 122 have been hospitalized. Twenty-four percent of total cases have occurred in children under five years old. In addition, five Salmonella serotypes have been added to the CDC investigation since the last update.
Contact with backyard poultry from multiple hatcheries is causing the outbreak, according to epidemiologic and laboratory evidence.
