Staff members found both patients unresponsive in the room they shared midday Feb. 9. Staff attempted CPR before paramedics arrived, but could not save a 28-year-old patient. The other patient was taken to a local hospital.
“We take patient safety and health very seriously as it impacts everyone at the hospital,” said Sean Murphy, assistant secretary of the state Department of Social and Health Services Behavioral Health Administration, according to The News Tribune. “We will conduct an internal review to determine what happened, and grief counselors are available for patients and staff who are shaken by this difficult loss.”
The agency could not provide details, citing confidentiality laws.
